Titled Road Trip, this nuSTUDIOS screening aims to showcase three films produced by our very own members, of which two are directorial debuts. Life is a journey posing many obstacles and countless unanswered questions. These three films share the stories of how these three individuals discover themselves upon embarking the road called ‘life’. Date: 20 March 2009 Time: 7.15pm Venue: LT32 (near University Hall) Admission: Free
Synopsis of Wind:
What are we as humans without and with nature? What is nature’s role in our lives, especially for us urban dwellers? This short film tackles that question as two urbanites rush off to a place during their break from work.
Synopsis of The Last Lap:
JEAN has a dream, which is to go to a sports school and become a professional athlete. However, life is not as smooth-sailing as she is thrust into a class of non-athletes and has to struggle against the flow of a rigid and academic-driven society. In her attempt to pursue the unconventional, JEAN has one last lap to break through- her inner state of mind.
Synopsis of Definition:
Like the most of us, ALVIN is constantly searching for the ever-so-elusive meaning of life. However, unlike the most of us, he has his eccentric and worldly-wise (also easily mistaken to be as loopy as a rollercoaster ride) best friend SIMON to help him in his quest to find the true value of the things most coveted by everyone – power, money and love. Join ALVIN as he unwittingly embarks on a wacky journey of self-discovery (where he learns of things he would rather not know), experiences mixed emotions (of sadness and guilt), and ultimately unravels the mystery that surrounds the answer which he seeks, SIMON’s bizarre behaviour, and…good oral hygiene.
There will be a sharing session after the screening by the cast and crew of the films.

Sometimes, even scrutinizing something closely might not yield us an answer; not unless we are willing to see it through a different lens. These films tell us the stories of impressions versus reality. Showcasing nuSTUDIOS productions ‘Minute’ and ‘In Our Own Words’. And short film, ‘ Blood Ties’, whose Director of Photography is an alumni member.

Hey people!

Deadline: 30 Jun 2008, Mon Time: Right Now Venue: Right Here
We are calling out for scripts!! We are looking for any “Environment” related script. It need not be directly related to environment but rather have environment elements in the script. It can be of any genre (eg. Documentary, drama, horror etc ). Scripts with “Environment” elements would have preferences in the selection towards a Budgeted production.
So, why on earth the “Environment”?
Next year’s theme for the NUS Arts Festival 09 would be the “Environment”. Having the films themed under “Environment”, it would be a great exposure and highlight for both the films and the screening. You might have the chance of being potentially identified by guests during the screening. And of course apart from that, we will definitely send the films out for competitions through the normal channels of Film Festivals.
So what is budgeted and non-budgeted?
A budgeted film will be a film with a given sum of money and also would also taken on by an experienced nuSTUDIOS crew set. Equipment would also be provided by nuSTUDIOS. The scriptwriter would also have the privilege of learning alongside our very own Resident Tutor Mr Lee Thean-jeen who is also a renowned TV Director in Singapore.
A non-budgeted film would not have allocated money, however equipment would also be supplied for the production subjected to availability. This non-budget production can take place among nuSTUDIOS members (both experienced or not). The purpose of having this non-budget category is to give exposure and experience to anyone who has the interest in making film (whether it is his/her first time or not).
I don’t have an “Environment” script. So HOW?
If you have no scripts related to the “Environment”, feel free to also send in your scripts!! =) We will be happy to receive it too!
Take note of the following:
Script Format:
It must be in proper script format! If you have difficulty trying to do it in proper format you might want to check out this programme called Celtx at www.celtx.com. It helps you with formatting too. It is free!
Timeline:
The deadline for scripts would be by 30 June 2008. This deadline is actually meant for scripts planning to go for production in December 08. The faster you send in your script, the faster your script will be potentially shot. However, if you can’t meet the deadline, you can always send in your scripts anytime but it will probably go into production at a later date.
SEND IN YOUR SCRIPTS (in proper script format) TO
We eagerly await your interesting stories! If you have any enquiries, please feel free to email
